who

Public Interest Entertainment Corporation is a nonprofit, open source digital entertainment studio.

We create online collaborative creativity tools and fun virtual worlds that promote civic participation, non-violent conflict resolution, and critical thinking.

Find out more about our founder, our board of directors and the diverse group of multidisciplinary expert advisors who donate their time and efforts to further our cause.

why

Fun doesn't have to be destructive. We can all benefit from more experiences of working together for common goals, with better means for productive cooperation.

what

Open Source Ethos

Under our corporate charter, all tools and technologies developed by the corporation are released as open source, under a license that allows royalty-free and unrestricted use for non-commercial purposes (while requiring licensing for commercial use).

Engine for Social Change

PIECORP develops self-sustaining and revenue-producing entertainment that combines high social value with high production values and broad appeal. Our goal is to develop a self-sustaining revenue model based on subscription services and technology licensing to commercial clients, freeing the corporation from dependence upon charitable funding, and then to become a significant funding engine for social entrepreneurship.

The 90/10 Rule

Under the terms of our charter, 90% of net income from revenue-generating PIECORP products will be donated to charities operating in the fields of non-violent conflict resolution, critical thinking and science education, civics education and democracy. The remaining 10% will be contributed to an independent central fund, PIEFUND, whose purpose is to act as a source of seed money for other nonprofit public service projects that commit to a self-sustaining model and who, in turn, will donate 90% of their net revenue to charity and 10% to the central fund for social entrepreneurs. In this way, PIECORP intends to catalyze a virtuous cycle that will generate an alternative to both traditional profit-driven and traditional donor-dependent value-driven enterprises.
